Character and suggestions regarding care
Is peaceful to it’s tankmates. Although, it is not reccommended for beginners due to demanding character.
Banded Pipefish can grow up to 19 cm what is approximately 7 inches. 1 specimen basically needs at least 2280cm
2 of water surface which is approximately 353 square inch. This fish should be kept in aquariums that are large. (
e) Medium aquariums have at least 113 Litres (30 US Gallons). Large aquariums have at least 265 Litres (70 US Gallons). Very large aquariums have at least 700 Litres (185 US Gallons).
It is difficult to keep the Banded Pipefish. (
e) The specific gravity (SG) should be between 1,020 and 1,025, the temperature between 23°C (73.4°F) and 26°C (78.8°F). The suggested level of pH (a measure of the acidity/basicity) is between 8.0 and 8.3 which is usual for most marine fish.
The tank should have a hole in the rock, it will be used as a hiding place. The best is to keep these fishes in pairs.
D. Dactyliophorus is a carnivore and you should feed them small crustaceans and food like Mysis Shrimp, mosquito larva, daphnia guppies, shrimps or even with Artemia salina and other freshwater invents, but the fish have to eat them sooner than they die in the salt water.
They were bred in tanks.
