This marine aquarium fish is known as Longnose Butterflyfish and the correct latin name is Forcipiger longirostris. The family that this fish belongs to is called the Butterfly Fish family. (e) Origin of this species is Indo-Pacific. (e)

Character and suggestions regarding care

This is a peaceful species which can be kept by beginners.

Longnose Butterflyfish can grow up to 22 cm what is approximately 8 inches. 1 specimen basically needs at least 2640cm² of water surface which is approximately 409 square inch. We recommend you to keep it in fish tanks which are large. (e) Medium aquariums have at least 113 Litres (30 US Gallons). Large aquariums have at least 265 Litres (70 US Gallons). Very large aquariums have at least 700 Litres (185 US Gallons).

It is easy to keep the Longnose Butterflyfish. (e) The specific gravity (SG) should be between 1,020 and 1,025, the temperature between 23°C (73.4°F) and 26°C (78.8°F). The recommended pH level is between 8.0 and 8.3 since marine fish are used to these levels in general.

Longnose Butterflyfish will eat small animals and algae from the top of the corals. It might take longer to get this fish eat commercial fish food.

Bear in mind that Forcipiger Longirostris are very sensitive to water quality.
