Character and suggestions regarding care
A semi-aggressive fish. Increasing the capacity of your aquarium usuaully leads to lowering the level of aggression.
Swallowtail Angel can grow up to 18 cm what is approximately 7 inches. So 1 specimen requires at least 2160cm
2 of water surface which is approximately 334 square inch. This fish should be kept in aquariums that are medium. (
e) Medium aquariums have at least 113 Litres (30 US Gallons). Large aquariums have at least 265 Litres (70 US Gallons). Very large aquariums hold at least 700 Litres (185 US Gallons).
It is not very difficult to keep the Swallowtail Angel fish. (
e) The specific gravity (SG) should be between 1,020 and 1,025, the temperature between 23°C (73.4°F) and 26°C (78.8°F). The recommended pH level is between 8.0 and 8.3 since marine fish are used to these levels in general.
The males are grey with slim black stripes, they have black fleck on the belly and they have longer tails than the females. Females are only grey without black markings.
If you want to have a shoal of this specie in the tank, you should have one male and a few females. It may happen that if you keep females only, the dominant female turns into a male and she will have those black markings too.
Plankton is natural food for G. Melanospilos. They require plankton in the tank too. It is not easy to feed them other foods, so there may be problems with feeding in captivity.
