Character and suggestions regarding care

This species is semi-aggressive.

Ornate Wrasse can grow up to 25 cm what is approximately 9 inches. In general, 1 specimen requires at least 3000cm2 of water surface which is approximately 465 square inch. It is recommended to raise this species in fish tanks that are large. (e) Medium aquariums have at least 113 Litres (30 US Gallons). Large aquariums have at least 265 Litres (70 US Gallons). Very large aquariums hold at least 700 Litres (185 US Gallons).

It is not very difficult to keep the Ornate Wrasse fish. (e) This fish is a hermaphrodite. The fish is at first a female, only later it may become a male. Females are more yellow with darker thin stripes. Males are more green with a blue and red stripe.

T. Pavo requires a bit colder water, about 20°C, because it comes from colder waters, so you have to be careful if you want to choose tank-mates for this fish. They should require colder water too. It also should have sand in the tank, because this fish buries itself into the sand during nights.

A carnivore. Feed them meat based food (shrimps, feeder fish, crabs).
